Summoned to Tourney

Quote - A Taste of Summoned to Tourney: Leaves whispered in a breath of breeze, as the early morning sun crept across the hills of San Francisco. A starling perched on the eaves of a four-story townhouse chirped in blissful appreciation of the sun on his back, the gentle breeze, the perfect Northern California morning. This house on a hill had a wonderful view of the Bay and the Famous Bridge which was not being sufficiently appreciated by the two-legged being below him. There was still fog on the Bay, though it had crept down the hill just before dawn; the towers of the Bridge rose above the downy sea of fog like the towers of lost Ys. Sun shone out of a near-cloudless sky, making the pearlescent fog glow faintly.

Clank.

"SonuvaBITCH."

The starling fluttered its wings in startlement and gazed warily down through the green leaves at the odd, blond-haired, pointy-eared creature that had made both noises. Korendil, Knight of Elfhame Sun-Descending, Magus Minor, Envoy to Elfhame Mist-Hold, and firstborn Child of Danaan beyond the Sundering Sea, let out another paint-blistering oath that frightened the starling above him into flight.

Korendil, Knight of Elfhame Sun-Descending, was not communicating well with the hot tub.

Summary: Eric, Beth and Kory have moved to San Francisco and are happily settling into their new life. Everything finally seems to be going right, street-busking and playing at Faires bringing in plenty of dough. Until Bethie and Kory get kidnapped by some strange men and Eric goes to some desperate measures to rescue them. The question is, will the price of the rescue be too high for anyone to bear?

Review: I thought that this book wasn't quite as good as the first, A Knight of Ghosts and Shadows, but it was still pretty neat. Kory has some interesting little interludes . . . microwaves for example. I found it quite amusing. Plus there was a greater variety of elves, which of course made me, obsessed with elves as I am, quite happy. There was also some new characters and nice new situations that I didn't really expect.

Once again, the plot was fast-moving and action-packed. The romance is still there, with a few twists in a place or two. The entire thing brought in some new characters and gave bigger parts to ones we've already met. Wasn't as funny as the first, but I think it was meant to be more somber. Over all, a good read that just about anyone can appreciate.

The Characters - My Analysis:
Eric Banyon
Eric's still his sweet self, albeit a bit more mature. And with a fear of motorcycles. It's cute. ^_^ There's not really much else to say about him that I didn't say when talking about the first book.
Bethany Kentraine
Bethie's her same sensible self. This book is a bit hard on her though. Poor Bethie! T_T
Korendil
Kory's still himself as well. Except now he's a musician! (sort of...) Anyway, still brave, still self-sacrificing, still a bit naive. That's Kory for you!
Elizabet
A healer, experienced, good at what she does. She's really a great lady, and definitely good to have around in a tight spot.
Kayla
Kayla's a lot of fun. She's a street kid that Elizabet took in and apprenticed. She's really talented, a brave gal. Besides which, she loves to freak people out with her punk appearance.
Blair
He's not a nice person to begin with, and then...well, I don't wanna give too much away, so let's just say he's possessed and leave it at that.
Susan Sheffield
She's into research, so you'd think she'd be boring, but she's cool. She ends up in a lot of trouble just because she survived, but she does a good job, mostly.
